Athlete Information

The first time you create a new athlete in BodyTrans, the Athlete Information screen is displayed.

Note: The Athlete Information screen will be displayed each time BodyTrans is launched for a new athlete unless you save some athlete information. To save the information you enter on this screen, simply click the OK button.

Athlete Information

It is important to enter your basic information here. Your Name is needed because it is printed out on each workout and meals sheet. Your Birth Date is required because it is used to calculate your heart rate information in the training and cardio logs. Your Sex (gender), your Weight, and your Body Fat Percentage are required to calcuate your BMR + Activity.

Body Fat Percentage

There are a lot of ways to calculate body fat percentage (body composition). Hydrostatic weighing, bioelectrical impedance (www.tanita.com), and the skin fold method are all popular methods of measurement. If none of these options is available to you, the following simple method devised by Dr. Fred Hatfield will suffice:

Multiply your weight in pounds (in the nude) by 1.082
Example: if you weigh 200 lbs,
200 x 1.082 = 216.40

Add 94.42
Example: 216.40 + 94.42 = 310.82
(Weight Factor)

Multiply your waist measurement (at navel) by 4.150
Example: if your waist is 34"
34 x 4.15 = 141.10
(Waist Factor)

Subtract
Weight Factor - Waist Factor
Example: 310.82 - 141.10 = 169.72
(169.72 is you lean body mass)

Subtract
Actual Weight - Lean Body Mass
Example: 200 - 169.72 = 30.28
(30.28 is your Body Fat Weight)

Divide and Multiply
(Body Fat Weight / Actual Weight) x 100
Example: (30.28 / 200) x 100 = 15.14%

Your Body Fat Percentage would be 15.14%

Note: The average person's body fat percentage in
America today is around 22%

Basal Metabolic Rate + Activity

Your Basal Metabolic Rate + Activity is calculated by taking your gender, weight, body fat percentage, and Activity Level under consideration. So upon entering this information into BodyTrans, the Basal Metabolic Rate + Activity textbox will be populated automatically. This number represents the amount of calories you should consume to maintain your current weight. If your goal is to lose weight, then you will want to subtract a few hundred calories from this number and enter that into the BMR cal/day textbox. Likewise, if your goal is to gain weight, you will want to add a few hundred calories to this number and enter that into the BMR+A cal/day textbox.

Macronutrient Ratio

The Macronutrient Ratio represents the percentages of each macronutrient you wish to consume each day. The default is 40/30/30, that is, 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% fat. This is the recommended macronutrient ratio for most people. After setting your macronutrient ratio, you will notice that the calculate button (>>) will display three arrows (>>>) instead of two. This is your clue to click that button so that BodyTrans can calculate the goal grams per day of each macronutrient. This information is used in the Totals tab of the Nutrition Log for each day.

Save Athlete Information

After you have finished entering your athlete information, click OK to save that data. Your macronutrient ratio and BMR information will now appear under the Goal column on the Totals tab of the Nutrition Log.
